Posted 20 May 2012 Actually, I used to make it a habit to find all the lurking members who had lurked that day at the bottom of the forums, and send them messages asking to join the conversation. Sometimes they'd make a couple posts and leave, sometimes they'd respond to me, one guy actually got mad at me for bothering him so much and reported me to the mods for not leaving him alone, despite the fact that he had zero posts and was still browsing very often. I don't think being a close knit community really holds members back in and of itself so much as it just amplifies the difficulties people have joining a forum. I've made accounts on other forums across the internet like this one, and yet this is the only one I've ever stayed with. Sometimes you just don't really feel the need to post somewhere.
